Notes:
I've made both the manga and anime versions of these ears now. (The Manga version is pictured here, the anime versions are shown on the Chi wig in the gallery.) I make my ears from hard resin, and the spools are wood. (I bore out the centers to make them easier to wear.)
I've had an opportunity to work with the "official" ears and spools, and found that the ears had a really nasty habit of catching your hair in the screw that holds them to the headband, and the flexible vinyl they're made from makes them easy to scuff. The "official" spools are difficult to use since the interior opening is so small that it's hard to get enough hair through it to make a good "puff" at the top. So, the way I mount the ears is tangle-proof, and the spools, while not 100% accurate, actually work.
I've still never watched this anime myself. The first three DVDs were loaned to me over 4 years ago, and I just never seem to have time to watch them. (Probably because I spend so much time making wigs and accessories from the series! x_x')
